In today’s competitive business landscape, companies are constantly seeking innovative ways to engage their audiences through live experiences. Events can be a powerful and effective tool for fostering a brand’s culture and making lasting impressions. Recently, Immersive Zones have surged in popularity as a tool to captivate audiences through the convergence of technology and interactive engagement. 

Now, before you start reaching out to VR companies, let’s explore what an Immersive Zone is.

Immersive Zones engage attendees through a 360-degree creative storytelling experience that utilizes environmental design, production, and entertainment to influence and stimulate participants’ senses of sight, smell, touch, and sound.

Recently, Think Up designed and developed an Immersive Zone for one of our clients who wanted to showcase their corporate programs regarding sustainability and wellness, while highlighting the correlation between these programs and increased revenue. 

To achieve this, we created a series of experiential pods, each designed to activate the senses of sight, sound, and scents through various experiences. These hands-on user experiences included:

  • A wellness bar with juice shots and tea samples, educating attendees on the benefits of each of their ingredients. 
  • A display demonstrating how composting can reduce waste and encourage attendees to grow their own indoor vegetables with hydroponics. 
  • A meditation space featuring comfortable seating, hot towels, calming music, and essential oils, all while projecting life-sized nature scenes emulating swaying trees, flowing water, and sounds of nature.

Through these immersive experiences, Think Up successfully conveyed key messages to attendees on sustainability, wellness, and brand focus, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to share with their internal team and clients.  

So, how can you determine if an Immersive Zone is right for you and your company?

Through our research and exploration on how to develop and execute these activations, we have boiled it down to 3 important questions to help you evaluate and determine if Immersive Zones are the right choice for your company’s next event.

1. What are my objectives?

When designing and developing this type of activation, it is crucial to understand the goals and objectives of what you are trying to achieve. 

Consider the following:

  • Diversity of your audience
  • Is my zone interactive, engaging, fun, and safe?
  • Do all elements create a seamless, cohesive experience that supports your message?
  • Have I created a safe space if the activation seems too overwhelming?

2. Do I have the budget to afford an Immersive Zone?

From a financial standpoint, it is rare that Immersive Zones are more cost-effective than traditional event approach. These activations require additional infrastructure, utilities, production, and resources to appropriately implement unique elements to bring multi-sensory experiences to life.

3. Do I have access to the right tools and know how to balance them to create my desired outcome?

Access to the right tools can come from vendor partnership. Production companies provide projection, lighting, stage design, and sound to make your vision come to life. Balancing the right technology in addition to finding a balance between human interaction and technology will allow your Immersive Zone to properly function. Working with high-tech elements can be exciting, but you must be careful not to lose sight of your key messaging and inclusion elements when designing your activation. This can result in chaos and confusion and potentially a negative user experience.

Incorporating Immersive Zones into your company’s strategy can be a game-changer, provided it aligns with your business objectives and target audience. Before diving into this technology-driven world, carefully evaluate the costs, potential benefits, and technical requirements.
