Every team experiences change differently.

Some need to understand the vision. Some focus on the impact on others. Some want the step-by-step plan. And some care most about what won’t change.

That’s why getting to know how your team deals with change matters just as much as the change itself.

Before you announce what’s changing, try asking:

  • Thinking about past changes, what made them easier and what made them challenging?
  • Which parts of how the team works together feel essential or sacred and should stay the same?
  • If a change were coming, what would help you feel prepared and supported?

These questions help you understand your team’s change style, how best to engage them in change, and what they need from you.

Effective change leaders don’t just manage timelines and plans. They pause, ask good questions, and make people feel part of change.
